Sisiter of drug addict looking for help
Hi there.. my suggestion to both of you would be to join on this site and locally in your hometown, a Alanon or Narnon group.. they are specifically for family members and friends of alcoholics and drug addicts.
You and your families will be in my thoughts and prayers....
Hi I really feel for you I have been in Al-anon for many years and it really helped me here is a website to go to where you will find all the information you need http://www.al-anon.alateen.org/
here is another
http://www.al-anonuk.org.uk/
here you will find information on dealing with family members on anything. If the word alchole bothers you just put in it's place what ever drug or substance there on you will find love, strength and hope at the meetings. BELIEVE ME HELP YOURSELF
Anything you need Im here for you
I am the mother or 4 daughters. I have a significant other for 27 years, my significant other and my 4 daughters are all drug addicts. Between my 4 daughters I have 6 grandchildren. I have been raising my 16 year old grandson since the day he was born. I now have my 2 year old grandson. I don't want to raise any more children. I want a life of my own. I have been fighting this fight with them for about 15 years and can’t do it anymore. I need someone to talk to. I need support I went to http://nar-anon.org/Nar-Anon/Nar-Anon_Home.html and found a meeting in my area. I am going tonight.
The addict has to fight their own fight. We can't fight it for them. We have to let them go and take care of ourselves. Easier said than done that is why we need support.
Im so glad your going to a meeting for support YOU NEED LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING I feel for you Ive been with many addicts. Im here for you on your road to recovery. It is hard but with support you can find happiness and calm. The addict HAS to decide to get help because THEY want it. I was told I am not there GOD if they fall on there face I have to let them.
I went to the Nar-Anon meeting last night it was great! I have stopped trying to help my addicts get help. I am focusing on me and my recovery. I started going to the gym 2 years ago, lost some weight and feel a lot better about myself. I have seperated from my SO, we have seperate houses, but we had been together for 27 years, raise my daughters together and have 6 grandchildren, so my SO has strong ties with my entire family.

I am also new to this group. I just learned 3 days ago that my 18 yr old has been using heroin since November. He says he hasn't used in 3 weeks and wants to stay off the drugs. I plan on finding a local support group in my area to help me. We are in the process of getting him assessed for treatment nearby where his dad lives. I do not want him @ home right now where he would have access to friends he could use with. I am so beside myself, I thought I asked all the right questions, had good communication with my kids, knew where and who he was with... HOW DID I NOT SEE HE WAS USING?
